After a difficult build into the one of the most important races of the season, lightweight sculler Fran Lane overcame the odds to produce an excellent string of wins reaching the final of the 'Fiona Dennis' trophy for lightweight senior sculls.

In the first round Trembling from Loughborough had to withdraw allowing the Derwent sculler a row over in to the next round. Here she raced well to beat Vernon of Exeter University by 1 & 1/2 lengths in a time of 6:38.

In the semi-final on Sunday morning, she met Lockwood from the University of Bristol, easily winning in 6:54 to make assertive progress to the Final.

A hard race in the final saw a win for Wase of Marlow.
