ADRIAN E L MAY

Adrian a Vice President of the Derwent Rowing Club was a second generation member of the club who, in turn, was to see his oldest son Paul represent the club. Adrian's own career afloat was continually interupted by the demands of work which saw him posted to different branches of the Royal Bank of Scotland usually to small towns without navigable rivers.

He was educated at Denstone College, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. Here he played Rugby Football and represented the college in the Rugby Fives and also in The Cross Country running team and as a Diver in the Swimming Club. He was a member of Derby Rugby Football Club for many years and played for the Firsts at Full Back, Fly Half or Centre. He also played for the County.

At Derwent he won his Novice Fours in the stroke seat at Kettering Regatta and later was to win Veteran at Bewdley. Although further success was to elude him he was to fiercely contest several finals during his short career on the water.

He was a good all round sportsman which was highlighted by his reaching the Doubles Finals in the National Rugby Fives Championship. He represented The Jesters Club and also represented club teams at Tennis, Squash and Cricket where he was a fast bowler.

Adrian will be sadly missed and our deepest sympathies go out to his widow Geraldine and his three sons, Paul, Phillip and Alex.
